This afternoon, I’m hosting our usual Creative Hour on Google Meet, at 5pm UK time (timezone converter here for those in other locations). I get a lot out of these writing sessions and as always I’m really looking forward to seeing you and working side by side.
Today’s Creative Hour is going to be the last for the time being. I’ve been running them since June 2022, and I love them, but I’ve decided to let Sundays be work-free for a while (other than the Sundays when I do In Writing book events, like this lovely one in Edinburgh with Maggie O'Farrell).
Tomorrow I’m going to press pause on all subscriber payments. I’m so grateful to all of you who have been willing to offer this financial support over the last couple of years. You have helped me to survive (eek). I hope to reinstate the Creative Hours at some point.
I will keep sending occasional newsletters, but I’m conscious I haven’t been writing about writing here very much lately, probably because I’m using up all my thoughts on this topic elsewhere (in the In Writing podcast, on TikTok, and promoting the book). If you aren’t already following
, I really recommend a deep dive through the enormous amount of writing advice he shares – it’s so good. Do subscribe.ANYWAY let’s get on to the Creative Hour blurb!
The schedule:
5pm BST (British Summer Time): Click the link below to open Google Meet.
I’d love you to switch your camera on for the first few minutes while we settle in, and keep it on throughout the hour if you can (it adds to the feeling that we’re all working side by side). As for microphones, we’ll follow a general rule of staying on mute and unmuting when we want to speak. Please chime in during the chats at the beginning and end – I’d love to hear from you.
5.05-ish: Writing time. If you’re running late, you’re welcome to slip in whenever, but don’t be offended if we don’t say hello. As for what to write – it’s totally up to you. Pick up a project that you’ve been neglecting, start something new, or if you’re stuck for inspiration, do some journalling or write a letter.
5.55-ish: We’ll return to wrap up the hour and reflect on how it went.
6pm: Say goodbye, and feel pleased with yourself for the rest of the day.
