Join me at 10am for the In Writing Creative Hour
Bring a cuppa and whatever you're working on – or just a blank page.
This morning marks the first In Writing Creative Hour for paid subscribers. If you’ve missed previous emails about it, here’s the gist: we get together on Google Meet, we say hello, we mute our microphones and we do our own writing in companionable silence.
Remote writing hours like this can bring a sense of solidarity and accountability, which I found really helpful and motivating during lockdown (when I attended lots of writing hours courtesy of the London Writers’ Salon, and organised others with friends). It’s also personally exciting for me as I’ve heard from so many people via the In Writing podcast but never had a chance to put faces to names. I hope you’ll join me today.
The schedule
10am London time: Click the link below to open Google Meet.
I’d love you to switch your camera on for the first few minutes while we settle in – and keep it on throughout the hour if you can bear it (it adds to the sense that we’re all together). As for microphones, it’s probably easiest to follow a general rule of staying on mute, and unmuting when required.
10.05am: Writing time. If you’re running late, you’re welcome to slip in whenever. As for what to write – it’s totally up to you. Pick up a project that you’ve been neglecting, start something new, or if you’re stuck for inspiration, do some journalling/morning pages or write a letter.
10.55am: We’ll return to wrap up the hour and reflect on how it went.
11am: Head off to enjoy your Sunday in the knowledge that you’ve already achieved something. If you feel like it, share a snippet of what you’ve written in the comments for this post – that would be lovely.
