Is anyone else knackered? It’s been a strange couple of weeks in the UK. I went down to Buckingham Palace last weekend, more to see what it was like than anything else, but because of the crowds and the cordons, I couldn’t really move once I got there. We all just shuffled and stood, under a grey sky, looking at piles of plastic-wrapped bouquets; some people took selfies. I thought I might feel moved, but it was more gloomy and odd than anything else.
I think there’s something about this time of year anyway; I love the autumn, but the first couple of weeks is exhaustingly different to summer. Everyone I know with small children is now dealing with Covid or a vomiting bug because they’re mixing at nursery or school again. I’ve thrown myself back into work, but what that really means is that I’ve fallen into the habit of staring at my laptop all day at home, and then lying around like a slug in the evening, unable to summon interest in going for a walk.
I feel creatively wiped out, which is why I’m trying something different for today’s In Writing Creative Club: less a prompt for the imagination, and more a challenge for the eye.
